Anand Bakshi was born on July 21, 1930, in Rawalpindi, Pakistan. The family arrived in Delhi and made their home there.

Anand Bakshi came to Hindi films to build a name for himself as a writer and singer, but he found greater success as a lyricist. He made his start penning songs for the film Bhalaa Aadmi, directed by Brij Mohan.
